Извещение from Почта России — the post office slip that may hide an official letter

An Извещение (о поступлении регистрируемого почтового отправления) is the paper slip or app notification from Почта России saying a registered letter is waiting for you. It is not a legal document itself — but for official mail it is often the only visible trace of a court order, fine or tax demand, and the legal clocks run whether or not the letter is collected.

How serious: needs actionAlso called: извещение с почты, бумажка в ящике, извещение о заказном письме, уведомление о судебном письме, трек-номер

A registered letter addressed to you has arrived at your post office, and this slip — or a notification in the Почта России app, or on Госуслуги — tells you to collect it. The slip itself is not a legal document.

For official mail it matters a great deal. Courts, the tax service, ГИБДД and bailiffs send their letters this way, so the slip is often the only visible trace of a court order, a fine or a tax demand addressed to you.

Ignoring the slip does not stop any legal clock. Unclaimed official letters go back to the sender, and you are usually treated as having received them.

Who sends it

АО «Почта России» — the national postal operator, which delivers virtually all official mail from courts, the tax service, ГИБДД and bailiffs.

A small form from Почта России in your mailbox with your name, a tracking number (трек-номер) and the post office address. The envelope class matters: items marked 'Судебное' or 'Административное' are letters from courts and authorities and are kept only 7 days. The same notice can appear in the Почта России app or on Госуслуги (электронные заказные письма).

The deadline

Pick up within the storage period: 30 calendar days for ordinary registered letters, 15 days for most other items, and only 7 days for 'Судебное' and 'Административное' mail (Правила оказания услуг почтовой связи, приказ Минцифры № 382, п. 34).

The letter can be collected within its storage period: 30 calendar days for ordinary registered letters, 15 days for most other items, and only 7 days for 'Судебное' and 'Административное' mail (Правила оказания услуг почтовой связи, приказ Минцифры № 382, п. 34). The period starts on the next working day after the item arrives at your post office (Правила, п. 34).

If you do nothing

The letter is returned to the sender. Legally, a message that reached your address but was not collected for reasons depending on you is deemed delivered (ГК РФ ст. 165.1: 'Сообщение считается доставленным и в тех случаях, если оно... не было ему вручено или адресат не ознакомился с ним'). Court and administrative deadlines — 10 days for a судебный приказ objection, 10 days for a fine appeal, and others — can run and expire without you ever opening the envelope.

How it escalates

  1. 01After 7 days ('Судебное' / 'Административное') or 30 days (ordinary registered mail), the letter returns to the sender.
  2. 02The sender — a court or an authority — typically treats you as notified (ГК РФ ст. 165.1); default judgments, fines that have entered into force and enforceable orders follow.
  3. 03You lose the short reaction windows (10 days / 7 days) that started while the letter sat at the post office.
  4. 04The next letter you get may already be from bailiffs, with the debt increased by fees.

Your options, procedurally

  • The letter can be collected at the named post office with a passport, or via the app's electronic ID; 'Судебное' mail is kept for only 7 days.
  • The item can be tracked by its трек-номер on pochta.ru or in the app, which shows who sent it before pickup.
  • Electronic registered letters (электронные заказные письма) can be enabled on Госуслуги or pochta.ru, so official mail arrives instantly wherever you are.
  • Forwarding (переадресация) can be arranged at the post office after a move; a storage extension by request is possible for ordinary mail but not for 'Судебное' or 'Административное' (Правила, п. 34).
  • If a returned letter caused a missed deadline: the restoration mechanisms of the relevant procedure (восстановление срока) exist, citing non-delivery.

Common questions

How long does the post office keep the letter?

30 calendar days for ordinary registered letters, 15 days for most other items, and only 7 days for 'Судебное' and 'Административное' mail (приказ Минцифры № 382, п. 34), counted from the next working day after arrival.

If I never collect it, does the deadline inside still count?

Yes. A message that reached your address but was not collected for reasons depending on you is deemed delivered (ГК РФ ст. 165.1), so deadlines such as the 10 days for a судебный приказ objection can run and expire.

Can I find out who sent it before going to the post office?

The item can be tracked by its трек-номер on pochta.ru or in the Почта России app.

Can storage of 'Судебное' mail be extended?

No. A storage extension by request is possible for ordinary mail but not for 'Судебное' or 'Административное' items (Правила, п. 34).
